Supplemental Life Insurance:

For Yourself

You may elect supplemental life insurance coverage for yourself in increments of $10,000 up to a maximum of $500,000 or 5 times your annual salary, whichever is less. You pay your share for the cost of this coverage with after-tax dollars through convenient payroll deductions. Rates are determined by your age and the amount of coverage you choose. If you elect an amount of life insurance coverage in excess of $200,000, you may need to provide CIGNA with evidence of insurability. Also, your group term life and supplemental life insurance coverage will be automatically reduced when you reach key ages. Special coverage provisions apply if you should become totally disabled prior to reaching age 60 or become terminally ill.

For Your Dependents

You may also purchase dependent life insurance coverage for your eligible dependents. Domestic partners are considered eligible dependents for this coverage. This coverage is available, through application, for your spouse/domestic partner in $10,000 increments, up to $500,000. For your eligible dependent children, you may apply a child rider on your own insurance certificate in the following increments of coverage: $2,500, $5,000, $10,000, $15,000 and $25,000. To be eligible, your dependent children must be at least 15 days old, but under age 19. Coverage terminates at age 25. If you elect over $30,000 coverage on your spouse/domestic partner, you may need to provide CIGNA with evidence of insurability. Dependent coverage is purchased with post-tax dollars due to IRS regulations. The cost of this coverage will be conveniently deducted from your paycheck.

An especially attractive feature of your CIGNA life insurance is that it is portable - you can continue coverage if you leave eFunds. However, supplemental life insurance is portable up to a maximum of $250,000. Premiums for the life of the policy will be calculated at a group rate rather than the typically higher individual insurance rates.
